Live Comedy

I am a founding member of the award-winning stage show A Drinking Game, having performed everything from Marty in Back to the Future to Vizzini in The Princess Bride over my ten years in the show, getting progressively drunker as the audience does. I then helped bring about the first satellite show, A Drinking Game Minnesota, before it spread to NYC and Vienna, Austria.

I produced 2010’s Sex, Soap, Torture, Weather for the Minnesota Fringe, and I produced Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years in Los Angeles in 2014. Starting in 2012 I recorded several live episodes of the Comedy on Vinyl podcast to discuss classic vinyl comedy albums with some of the great comedy minds of our time. In 2021, my sketch and improv group, Dan and Jay’s Comedy Hour, performed live for the first time, over Zoom, celebrating the 20th anniversary of our first viral video. Following the release of my book We’re Not Worthy, I started giving comedic talks about sketch comedy at libraries and other live venues.

In 2025, Dan and Jay’s Comedy Hour performed at the launch of our fake museum exhibit/first comedy cylinder record at the Detroit Public Library. The exhibit was in place at the DPL for an entire month, with nothing to hint at the mostly-fictitious origins of the artifacts.

In addition to live comedy performances, I’m also a host/presenter/moderator with over 25 years’ experience interviewing everyone from Carol Burnett to Rachel Bloom. I’ve turned those interviews into over 1,500 podcast episodes, two nonfiction books, and one feature-length documentary.
